BACH/WEBERN Musical Offering: Ricercare
AARON JAY KERNIS Concerto with Echoes
World Premiere, part of The New Brandenburgs
BEETHOVEN Violin Concerto in D major

We return to Orpheus’ roots with Stravinsky’s Dumbarton Oaks. Nobody plays it like we do! With Bach’s Brandenburg No. 6 as inspiration, colorful composer Aaron Jay Kernis provides his contribution to our multi-year New Brandenburg commissioning project. After intermission, Norwegian violinist Henning Kraggerud brings his energy and virtuosity to Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D major—fresh, audacious and brimming with poetic power.

"To say that Kraggerud made music in Beethoven's Violin Concerto would be an understatement. The 32-year-old, mop-haired Norwegian, who stepped in for ailing Akiko Suwanai, performed with a stylistic command... It is a safe prediction that he will soon be knocking on the door of stardom, not only for his daunting virtuosity and strapping good looks, but for his distinctive artistry.”

Janine Jansen, originally scheduled to perform the Beethoven concerto with Orpheus, has withdrawn due to illness. Norwegian violinist, Henning Kraggerud has graciously agreed to step in as soloist. This performance marks Mr. Kraggerud’s New York Orchestral Debut as well as his debut with Orpheus.
