Prometheus Unbound with Wayne Shorter Quartet

In the year that Orpheus turns forty, jazz legend Wayne Shorter turns eighty. Both are in top form, and they are celebrating together with Shorter's original collaborations for jazz quartet and chamber orchestra, including the world premiere of Lotus. Joining the composer/saxophonist are Danilo Pérez (piano), John Patitucci (bass), and Brian Blade (drums), all world-class improvisers who bring fresh perspective to the musical give-and-take at the heart of the Orpheus process. The program begins with the Overture to The Creatures of Prometheus, composed just as Beethoven was losing his hearing and honing his incisive musical language. Also featured is Charles Ives’ Symphony No. 3, The Camp Meeting, suffused with hymns from the composer’s youth.
