With Violinist Sarah Chang
New York, NY—At 8 pm on Thursday, June 14, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra will make its debut at the Ravinia Festival with violinist Sarah Chang as guest soloist. Ms. Chang will perform Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons as part of a program that also features Suk’s Serenade for Strings, Op. 6 in E-flat Major, and Argentinian composer Osvaldo Golijov’s 1996 work, Last Round.
Sarah Chang most recently performed Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons with Orpheus on tour in South Korea for five dates in May 2007. After the tour, Orpheus recorded the piece with Ms. Chang for a disc due out in October 2007 on EMI Classics. Ms. Chang describes her work with the ensemble as a unique experience. “Every member of Orpheus is a fantastic soloist, and I always look forward to performing with this group because it is such a natural collaboration,” she said. “Playing Vivaldi’s Four Seasons together is particularly rewarding, because it is a work that allows you to express such a variety of colors and characters,” she continued. “With Orpheus, because of the focus and thoughtfulness that goes into every rehearsal and performance, it truly is possible to fully convey the vivid and colorful images Vivaldi created with this piece.”
