Nardo Poy, Viola

Nardo Poy, violist, has been a member of the world-renowned Orpheus Chamber Orchestra since 1978. He can also be heard performing with a number of chamber music and orchestral ensembles in the New York area, among them the Perspectives Ensemble, the Orchestra of St. Luke's, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. He is principal violist with the New York Symphonic Arts Orchestra and the Bard Music Festival Orchestra.

Among the positions Mr. Poy has held over the years are Artist-in-Residence at SUNY at Potsdam with the Carnegie String Quartet; violist with the Broyhill Chamber Ensemble; principal violist with the Lake George Opera Festival, the Santa Fe Opera, the Opera Company of Philadelphia and the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra. For many years he was a member and soloist with the Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia and has appeared as soloist with the North Carolina Symphony, the Kansas City Camerata and with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra throughout the United States, Europe and Japan. Mr. Poy has made over 60 recordings over the years with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra for the Deutsche Grammophon, Nonesuch and Sony labels and has collaborated on a recording of chamber music with voice with Dawn Upshaw (The Girl With Orange Lips) on the Nonesuch label. Other chamber music recordings include works by Dvorak with the Harmonie Ensemble on the Music and Arts label, music of Charles Tomlinson Griffes with the Perspectives Ensemble on the Newport Classics label, a recording of a sting quintet by Taneyev with musicians from the Bard Festival and an album on the Chesky label of music by Piazzolla, which includes two works for viola and piano.
