Matt Dine began his musical studies at age 10 with the banjo. At 15, he began studying the oboe, after seeing a picture of it in a dictionary. His first teachers included Zeke Hecker, Lois Wann and Georges Haas. He then entered the Eastman school where he studied with Robert Sprenkle, Jonathan Parks, Philip West and Richard Killmer. He graduated with the coveted Performers Certificate and went on to receive his masters degree from the Juilliard School. Additional teachers have included Alan Vogel, Robert Walters and Randall Wolfgang.
In addition to participating in the Norfolk, Marlboro, Mostly Mozart Colorado College and Aspen music festivals, he has held principal chairs in the Santa Fe Opera as well as the Stamford and American Symphonies. He is currently principal oboe with American Ballet Theater and co-principal oboe and English horn with Orpheus, with whom he has been a member since 1993.
Also active in the commercial world, Mr. Dine regularly records for the television and motion picture industry and currently plays the Broadway production of "Jekyll and Hyde." He has recorded for Nonesuch, Philips, EMI, RCA, DMV, Nimrod, Sony Classical and Deutsche Grammophon labels. He lives in New York City with his three amazing children, Emily, Nina and Jack.
