The core of Orpheus' public schools program involves bringing our Orpheus process, a custom-created repertoire, and a comprehensive immersion in the orchestral experience into the schools. This model program, developed in partnership with Baruch College Campus High School, has generated measurable interest and excitement among students. Our approach reinforced the immersive musical experience by offering participating students -- and an accompanying parent -- the chance to experience Orpheus first hand at select Carnegie Hall performances.
By making classical music a family activity and empowering students to be the link between the family and Carnegie Hall, Orpheus extends the power of our Carnegie series to create life-long classical music fans. Last season, more than 1,000 students and their parents attended Orpheus concerts at Carnegie Hall.
Recently, we began an exciting new pilot program at PS 333, a public elementary school in Manhattan. This program brings musicians into individual classrooms to share the Orpheus Process, introducing various aspects of classical music. We expect to make a wider impact through special assembly programs for the entire school.
The continued expansion and success of the education program is due in large part to the generous multi-year support of The Peter Jay Sharp Foundation.
